Colombo: Pakistan will face arch-rivals India in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 on February 15 in Colombo, the International Cricket Council (ICC) confirmed on Monday, putting to rest speculation over Pakistan’s participation in the tournament.
In an official statement, the ICC announced that Pakistan will take part in all its scheduled matches, including the much-anticipated encounter against India. The confirmation followed discussions between the ICC and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) as part of broader engagement aimed at ensuring smooth conduct of the global event.
“The dialogue between ICC and PCB took place as part of a broader engagement with both parties recognising the need for constructive dealings and being united, committed and purposeful in their aspirations to serve the best interests of the game with integrity, neutrality and cooperation,” the ICC said.
The global cricket body added that all member boards have agreed to honour their commitments under ICC event participation terms to ensure the ongoing edition of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup is a success.
Earlier, the ICC had taken note of a statement issued by the Government of Pakistan, which had indicated restrictions on the team’s participation to select matches. Monday’s announcement clarifies that Pakistan will now compete fully in the tournament.
Pakistan began their campaign with a three-wicket victory over the Netherlands and will play their second group match against the USA on February 10 in Colombo, ahead of the marquee clash with India.
The ICC’s announcement also followed a meeting involving the ICC, PCB and the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). The ICC confirmed that Bangladesh will not face any penalties for its absence from the tournament.
Additionally, Bangladesh will be given an opportunity to host an ICC event ahead of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2031, subject to standard hosting processes and requirements.
The India–Pakistan match is expected to be one of the most watched fixtures of the tournament, drawing global attention from millions of fans.
