Deepti Sharma has made history. On Tuesday night, at the Greenfield International Stadium, the 28-year-old off-spinner became the highest wicket-taker in Women’s T20 Internationals, surpassing Australia’s Megan Schutt.
It was the 14th over of Sri Lanka’s chase when Deepti trapped Nilakshika Silva, claiming the record-breaking wicket. With 152 T20I wickets, she now leads the all-time list.
A Remarkable Year
2025 has been exceptional for Deepti, who earlier this week became the first cricketer—male or female—to achieve the T20I double of 1,000 runs and 150 wickets.
Her contributions this year have been pivotal for India. Deepti played a central role in India’s maiden ODI World Cup title, taking 22 wickets and scoring 215 runs, including a five-wicket haul in the final, earning Player of the Tournament.
She also ends 2025 as the ICC’s No. 1 ranked T20I bowler, overtaking Australia’s Annabel Sutherland. Deepti helped India complete a 5-0 series whitewash over Sri Lanka.
