India’s T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav has openly acknowledged his recent struggles with the bat, admitting that his form has not been up to the mark as the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 draws closer.
Speaking after India’s recent T20I assignment, Yadav conceded that while the team delivered strong results, his own batting failed to click.
“The only thing we couldn’t find in the series was Surya the batter,” Yadav said, according to Sportstar, in a frank assessment of his performance.
Despite leading the side successfully, the 34-year-old has endured a prolonged lean patch, raising questions over his form heading into the marquee tournament. However, Yadav maintained that he remains confident of turning things around.
According to Sportstar reporting, the Indian skipper stressed that he understands what adjustments are required and believes he still has enough time to regain his rhythm before the World Cup.
“I know what to do. I have time,” Yadav said, expressing belief that his best is yet to come.
The Indian team management has continued to back Yadav’s leadership and experience, viewing his honesty as a positive sign rather than a concern. With several T20 internationals scheduled before the World Cup, Yadav is expected to use the upcoming matches to rediscover his touch and return to the aggressive batting form that once made him the world’s top-ranked T20 batter.
As India builds towards the 2026 showpiece, all eyes will be on whether the skipper can transform self-reflection into runs — and bring back “Surya the batter” when it matters most.
