Chennai: Luis Suárez, the Uruguayan striker and one of the most prolific forwards of his generation, has signed a new one-year contract with Major League Soccer side Inter Miami, the club confirmed on Wednesday. The deal will see Suárez remain with the reigning MLS Cup champions for the 2026 season.
Suárez, who will turn 39 in January, has been a key figure for Inter Miami since joining ahead of the 2024 season. During the 2025 campaign, he scored 17 goals and provided 17 assists in 50 appearances across all competitions, contributing significantly to Miami’s success, including winning the MLS Cup and Eastern Conference title.
Since his arrival in South Florida, Suárez has accumulated 42 goals and 29 assists in 87 matches, making him the second-highest scorer in club history.
Inter Miami co-owner Jorge Mas had indicated ahead of the formal announcement that the club was open to retaining Suárez if he chose to extend his stay, praising his contributions and leadership both on and off the field.
Suárez now remains one of just two members of Inter Miami’s original “Core Four” — alongside Lionel Messi — still at the club following the retirements of Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba after the 2025 playoffs.
The 2026 season will also see Inter Miami inaugurate its long-awaited new home, Miami Freedom Park, with the first scheduled match at the venue set for April 4 against Austin FC.
