Vaibhav Sooryavanshi announced himself again with a stunning unbeaten century for Bihar against Maharashtra in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025 at Eden Gardens on Tuesday. The 14-year-old left-hander hammered a 61-ball 108*, lifting Bihar to 176/3 in 20 overs. His innings included seven fours and seven sixes at a strike rate of 177.05.
Fifty Through Calm Build-Up
Asked to bat first, Vaibhav took his time early on before launching his charge. A six and a four off Jalaj Saxena in the fourth over gave him momentum. He reached his half-century from 34 balls with back-to-back boundaries off Yogesh Dongre at the start of the 13th over.
Acceleration After Reaching Fifty
Once set, the young southpaw shifted gears. He smashed towering sixes off Vicky Ostwal and Dongre in back-to-back overs. Boundaries off RS Hangargekar pushed him to 98, and a six at the start of the final over brought up his maiden SMAT hundred off 58 balls.
A Remarkable Year for the Teenager
This century continues a breakthrough year for Vaibhav. He became the youngest IPL debutant at 14 years and 23 days before smashing a 35-ball century against Gujarat Titans—the fastest IPL ton by an Indian.
Impact Across Formats and Levels
He carried that form into the India U19 tour of England, finishing as top scorer with 355 runs in five Youth ODIs. His 143 there became the fastest century in U19 men’s ODIs and made him the youngest to score a ton in the format.
Dominance in Youth Cricket
Vaibhav also struck a hundred against Australia U19 in a Youth Test in Brisbane. Before SMAT, he had blasted 144 off 42 balls for India A in the Rising Stars Asia Cup, including a 32-ball century—the youngest ever for any national representative side.
Set for Upcoming U19 Asia Cup
The 14-year-old has now been named in India’s squad for the ACC Men’s U19 Asia Cup 2025, starting December 12 in Dubai.
