Mumbai: In a landmark achievement for Indian golf, Pranavi Urs has created history by winning the IGPL Invitational Mumbai, becoming the first Indian woman to triumph in a professional tournament while competing directly against men. The event took place at the prestigious Bombay Presidency Golf Club, marking a defining moment in her young but already illustrious career.
A Stunning Final Round Performance
Pranavi delivered one of the finest rounds of her career on the final day, producing a flawless 8-under 60. Her round included eight birdies — among them a memorable one on the 18th — and not a single bogey. With a total score of 14-under, she finished two shots clear of overnight leader Karandeep Kochhar.
Her composure under pressure and clinical shot-making set her apart from an experienced field, earning her the admiration of fellow competitors and spectators.
Praise From Rivals and Emotional Reflections
Karandeep Kochhar, who had begun the final day on top, praised Pranavi’s extraordinary performance, admitting that she “outplayed the entire field.”
Pranavi, visibly moved by the scale of her accomplishment, said she was still processing the significance of the win, describing the moment as “numbing” and surreal.
Overcoming Injury to Rise Higher
The victory is even more remarkable considering Pranavi was recovering from a wrist injury earlier this year. The setback had affected her form, but consistent performances helped her regain momentum and secure her Ladies European Tour (LET) card for next season.
Her resilience and mental strength were on full display as she took on — and outperformed — some of the top male golfers in the country.
A Format That Fuels Growth
Pranavi credited the IGPL’s mixed-gender format for giving women golfers a meaningful benchmark to measure their game. Competing alongside men, she said, helps identify areas for improvement and broadens competitive experience — an opportunity she believes is crucial for the growth of women’s golf in India.
What’s Next for India’s New Trailblazer
With this historic triumph, Pranavi also secured a winner’s cheque of Rs 22.50 lakh. Her focus now shifts to strengthening her presence on the Ladies European Tour, with ambitions of becoming a global force in the sport.
Her groundbreaking win is expected to inspire a new wave of young Indian golfers and reshape perceptions around mixed-gender competition in the country.
