Two-time major champion Justin Thomas will sit out the early part of the 2026 golf season after undergoing back surgery to address a persistent disc issue.
Thomas, 32, has not competed since representing the United States in September’s Ryder Cup, where Europe claimed victory. The American star revealed he had been dealing with hip pain for several months, and an MRI later confirmed a disc problem requiring treatment.
The golfer said he underwent a successful microdiscectomy and has already been discharged from the hospital. His immediate focus will be rest, followed by a structured rehabilitation period.
Thomas, a US PGA Championship winner in both 2017 and 2022, returned to form earlier this year with a dramatic play-off victory at the RBC Heritage — his first title since his second major.
He cautioned fans against expecting a quick return, stressing he will not commit to any tournament timeline. Thomas said he aims to allow his body to fully heal to prevent the injury from resurfacing.
While he confirmed he will miss several early 2026 events, Thomas expressed confidence in his recovery team and optimism about returning stronger.
