Kshitij Naveed Kaul grabbed a one-shot clubhouse lead at the Coal India Open after carding a four-under 66 before heavy rain halted the second round at Tollygunge Club on Wednesday.

The 25-year-old Delhi golfer moved to 10-under 130 after two rounds, with five birdies and a bogey leaving him one shot ahead of Chandigarh’s Akshay Sharma, who shot 65 to reach nine-under 131.

Overnight leader Om Prakash Chouhan and DP World PGTI Rankings leader Saptak Talwar shared third place at eight-under 132.

Play was suspended at 3.45pm with nearly half of the 132-player field still to complete their second rounds. The remaining players will resume at 7am on Thursday.

Kaul Makes Strong Move

Kaul began his round with five successive pars before finding his rhythm with back-to-back birdies on the sixth and seventh holes.

He added three more birdies on the back nine but dropped a shot on the 18th to finish with a 66.

Having started the day two shots behind the lead, Kaul’s second-round effort put him in control at the clubhouse as the weather disrupted the tournament.

Several Contenders Yet To Finish

Ajeetesh Sandhu, who was second after opening with a 63, completed only three holes and remained at seven-under.

Shaurya Bhattacharya, who was tied third after a first-round 64, had just begun his second round when play was suspended.

With almost half the field still to finish, the leaderboard remains subject to change when play resumes on Thursday.

The projected cut currently stands at one-over.
