Tennis fans are in for a spectacle this December as World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka takes on Nick Kyrgios in a high-profile “Battle of the Sexes” exhibition match at Dubai’s 17,000-seat Coca-Cola Arena on December 28.
The event draws its name from the legendary 1973 duel between Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs, when King’s straight-sets victory became a defining moment for gender equality in sports. More than five decades later, Sabalenka and Kyrgios will bring that spirit back — with a modern twist.
Kyrgios, who has battled injuries and long absences from the tour, announced that he’ll play under modified rules: only one serve and a smaller court target area on his side. Ever the showman, he has still predicted an easy win.
Sabalenka, meanwhile, enters as the reigning force in women’s tennis — a four-time Grand Slam champion whose power and presence have reshaped the WTA landscape.
Before Dubai, both will feature in a December 8 exhibition in New York — Sabalenka facing Naomi Osaka, and Kyrgios playing Tommy Paul.
“I never thought I’d be back traveling and playing again,” Kyrgios said on Instagram. “I’m feeling amazing.”
For tennis fans, this matchup promises more than an exhibition — it’s a playful revival of a cultural milestone, bringing fire, flair, and a fresh chapter to the eternal conversation about power, style, and spectacle in the sport.
