Melbourne:
Australia stormed into the semi-finals of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 with a commanding 10-wicket win over Bangladesh, reaffirming their dominance on the global stage. Chasing a modest 199, the defending champions made light work of the target, cruising home in just 24.3 overs without losing a wicket.
Healy And Litchfield Lead From The Front
Alyssa Healy was the star of the show, smashing a blistering 113 not out from just 77 balls — her second century of the tournament — showcasing her trademark power and precision. Partner Phoebe Litchfield offered perfect support, finishing unbeaten on 84 off 69 deliveries. The pair’s unbeaten 199-run stand not only sealed victory but also sent a strong message to their World Cup rivals.
Bangladesh’s Spirited Start Fizzles Out
Earlier, Bangladesh battled hard to post 198 for 9 after opting to bat first. Sobhana Mostary anchored the innings with a resilient 66 not out, while Rubya Haider contributed 44. However, regular breakthroughs by Australia’s disciplined bowling attack — with wickets shared among Ashleigh Gardner, Georgia Wareham, Alana King, Annabel Sutherland, and Megan Schutt — restricted Bangladesh from accelerating in the latter stages.
Australia Secure Top Spot
With this emphatic victory, Australia climbed to the top of the tournament table with nine points from five matches, sealing their semi-final berth with a game to spare. Bangladesh, meanwhile, remain sixth with just two points from their five outings.
Next Challenges Await
Australia will next face arch-rivals England on October 22 in what promises to be a high-intensity clash, while Bangladesh will look to end their campaign on a positive note against hosts Sri Lanka on October 20.
