Kuala Lumpur: Nepal and Oman have officially booked their places in the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, marking a significant achievement in their cricketing journeys. Both teams confirmed qualification from the Asia/East Asia-Pacific (EAP) Qualifier after consistent performances ensured they finished in the top three, even before their Super Six clash.
Early Qualification Before Final Clash
With dominant showings throughout the regional qualifier, Nepal and Oman sealed their tickets to the World Cup ahead of schedule. Their consistency and superior net run rate guaranteed them safe passage, making the upcoming fixtures a battle for positioning rather than survival.
This achievement comes as part of the expanded 20-team format for the 2026 edition, which will be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka in February–March 2026.
Nepal’s Spin Strength And Rising Confidence
Nepal’s qualification has been driven by outstanding performances from their bowlers, particularly leg-spinner Sandeep Lamichhane, who has taken ten wickets in four innings at an average of 9.40. His crucial spell of 5 for 18 against Qatar was instrumental in securing Nepal’s momentum.
Batters like Aasif Sheikh and Dipendra Singh Airee have also provided stability and power in the middle order, reinforcing Nepal’s reputation as one of Asia’s fastest-rising cricket nations.
Oman’s Consistent All-Round Displays
Oman, too, maintained remarkable consistency, showcasing disciplined bowling and composed batting throughout the qualifiers. Their campaign has been headlined by key performances from Jiten Ramanandi, whose left-arm seam bowling has troubled several top-order lineups.
Oman’s qualification further solidifies their reputation as one of the most dependable Associate cricket teams, following previous T20 World Cup appearances in 2016 and 2021.
UAE’s Win Confirms The Duo’s Qualification
The confirmation of Nepal and Oman’s World Cup spots came after UAE’s 77-run victory over Samoa, which mathematically ensured neither team could be overtaken in the standings. UAE and Japan are still vying for the third and final qualification berth from the region.
Road Ahead
While Nepal and Oman can now focus on fine-tuning their squads for 2026, the remaining Super Six fixtures will determine which team joins them in completing the EAP trio.
The 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup promises to be the biggest edition yet, with 20 teams competing on Asian soil — and for Nepal and Oman, it marks another proud milestone in their growing cricketing legacy.
