Bhubaneswar: India’s women cricketers were handed a fine of 5% of their match fees for maintaining a slow over-rate in their ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 clash against Australia in Visakhapatnam on October 12. The defending champions chased down India’s total of 330 with an over and three wickets to spare, but India were found to be one over short of the required rate after time allowances were considered.
The sanction was imposed by Michell Periera of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees under Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which states that players are fined 5% of their match fee for each over their team fails to bowl within the stipulated time.
India captain Harmanpreet Kaur accepted the charge and the proposed sanction, meaning no formal hearing was necessary. The slow over-rate offence was reported by on-field umpires Sue Redfern and Nimali Perera, along with third umpire Kim Cotton and fourth umpire Jacquline Williams.
This fine underscores the ICC’s strict enforcement of over-rate regulations, ensuring that teams maintain the pace of play throughout the tournament.
