India wrapped up a comfortable seven-wicket victory over West Indies in Delhi to complete a 2-0 clean sweep, giving Shubman Gill his first Test series win as captain.
Chasing 103 on the final morning, KL Rahul led the way with an unbeaten 58 as the hosts finished the job within an hour. The result keeps India firmly in the top three of the World Test Championship standings, behind Australia and Sri Lanka.
Jaiswal and Gill set up strong start
India’s dominance began in the first innings when Yashasvi Jaiswal struck a fluent 175 and captain Gill remained unbeaten on 129 as India declared at 518-5. The visitors had no answers to India’s spin attack, with Kuldeep Yadav picking up 5 for 82 to bowl them out for 248.
West Indies, however, showed far more fight in their second innings. John Campbell and Shai Hope both hit determined centuries, putting on a 150-run stand for the second wicket. Their partnership helped the visitors reach 271-3 before a quick burst from Mohammed Siraj turned the match around.
India cruise to victory
From a promising position, West Indies collapsed to 390 all out, losing their last seven wickets for just 119 runs. Number 11 Jayden Seales added some late entertainment with a quick 25, but the target of 103 was never going to trouble India.
Openers Sai Sudharsan (39) and Rahul ensured there were no early hiccups, guiding the team home with ease. Sudharsan’s composed effort followed his impressive 87 in the first innings, making a strong case for his place in future Tests.
India will now travel to Australia for a white-ball series before hosting South Africa for two Tests later this year. The West Indies, meanwhile, move on to New Zealand for their next red-ball challenge starting November 5.
