Bhubaneswar: India are expected to field an unchanged lineup for the upcoming Delhi Test against the West Indies, assistant coach Ryan Ten Doeschate confirmed on Tuesday. The team management is keen to maintain the winning combination from the first match, focusing on consistency and team balance.
Ten Doeschate, addressing the media ahead of the game, stated that the current setup offers both stability and flexibility. “The players have settled well into their roles, and we see no reason to alter a side that delivered results in the previous Test,” he said.
Focus On Developing A Seam-Bowling All-Rounder
The former Netherlands cricketer emphasized India’s broader goal of nurturing a quality seam-bowling all-rounder. He identified Nitish Kumar Reddy as a promising option being closely monitored for this role. “Reddy has shown tremendous growth as a batter. Our aim is to gradually increase his bowling workload and build him into a three-dimensional cricketer,” Ten Doeschate explained.
Batting Progress Praised, Bowling Development In Progress
Reddy’s recent performances have impressed the team management, especially his century in the Australia series. However, Ten Doeschate noted that while his batting has been consistent, his bowling still requires refinement and endurance to meet Test-match demands.
Intense Competition In The Spin Department
With Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar, and Axar Patel all performing strongly, India’s spin department remains one of the toughest to break into. “We’re fortunate to have such depth. It pushes every player to evolve and contribute in multiple dimensions,” Ten Doeschate remarked.
Emphasis On Versatility In Batting Order
Highlighting India’s modern selection approach, the assistant coach added that adaptability in the batting lineup is now crucial. “Players who can switch roles — batting at No. 5, 6, or 7 — give us balance and allow for tactical flexibility. Reddy understands this and is working towards that goal,” he said.
India will face the West Indies at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi, starting Friday, aiming to secure the series with another strong all-round performance.
