Farmingdale – The opening ceremony for the 45th Ryder Cup has been rescheduled from Thursday to Wednesday due to a forecast of inclement weather at Bethpage Black, the tournament’s organizers announced on Tuesday. The change was made to ensure the safety and comfort of fans and to avoid potential disruption from the approaching storms.
Inclement Weather Forces Schedule Change
Organizers cited the forecast of rain and thunderstorms for Thursday as the primary reason for the schedule adjustment. According to the on-site meteorologist, there is an 80% chance of rain with scattered thunderstorms and wind gusts up to 28 mph expected on Thursday. While rain is still possible throughout the competition days from Friday to Sunday, the forecast improves, with only a 20% chance of rain on those days. The move of the opening ceremony to Wednesday aims to get the event underway before the worst of the weather arrives.
What to Expect for Fans and Captains
With the ceremony now set for Wednesday at 4 p.m. local time (2000 GMT), fans who hold tickets for Thursday will be granted admission to the course on both Wednesday and Thursday. This allows ticketholders to experience the opening festivities while still having access to the practice rounds on Thursday.
Despite the change to the ceremony, the traditional announcement of the pairings for Friday morning’s foursomes matches will still take place on Thursday at 4 p.m. as planned. U.S. Captain Keegan Bradley and European Captain Luke Donald will reveal their selections at a site to be determined.
