Indian shooters endured another disappointing outing at the ISSF World Cup (rifle/pistol), with Samrat Rana, Amit Sharma and Nishant Rawat failing to qualify for the men’s 10m air pistol final on Wednesday. Host nation China continued its stronghold with yet another dominant performance.
Samrat finishes outside top eight
Samrat Rana, a 20-year-old former junior world team gold medallist, was the best Indian on display but could only manage 10th place in qualification with a modest score of 582. The result left him two points short of making the medal round.
China’s Hu Kai topped qualification with 589 and later claimed the gold medal with a score of 242.3 in the final. Compatriot You Changjie settled for silver after shooting 241.5, highlighting China’s depth in the event.
Amit and Nishant off the pace
Amit Sharma, who had earlier finished 11th in the mixed team 10m air pistol alongside Surbhi Rao, could not improve on his form and ended 28th with 576. Nishant Rawat fared worse, finishing 42nd with a tally of 568.
With the hosts clinching two gold and two silver medals so far, India’s men remain without a podium finish.
Women’s hope in Divya
There was some cheer for India in the women’s 25m pistol event, where Divya Subbaraju impressed in the precision round. Scoring 291 with series of 97, 94 and 100, she secured seventh place among 37 competitors and remains in contention for a spot in Thursday’s final after the rapid-fire stage.
Other Indians in the fray, Abhidnya Patil (19th with 288) and seasoned campaigner Rahi Sarnobat (26th with 286), will need strong rapid rounds to push for qualification.
