In a dramatic turn of events ahead of the much-anticipated Asia Cup 2025 clash between India and Pakistan, Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha has put to rest rumours of tension with Indian skipper Suryakumar Yadav. A viral video from the pre-tournament captains’ press conference in Dubai sparked controversy when Salman appeared to walk past Suryakumar without a handshake, igniting speculation of a frosty standoff between the two arch-rivals.
However, extended footage later revealed that Salman paused at the exit to greet Suryakumar, offering a handshake followed by a brief hug. The gesture not only quelled rumours of hostility but also highlighted the spirit of camaraderie and respect between the two sides.
Adding to the positive optics, Suryakumar was later seen warmly greeting Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman and Asian Cricket Council (ACC) president Mohsin Naqvi backstage, further underlining cricket’s role as a unifying force amid geopolitical tensions.
The India-Pakistan rivalry remains one of the most high-stakes encounters in international sport, with their Asia Cup clash set for September 14 in Dubai. Both teams, while fierce competitors on the field, have repeatedly emphasised mutual respect and sportsmanship off it.
This incident serves as a reminder that viral moments can often misrepresent reality and that, even in high-pressure environments, cricket diplomacy continues to thrive.
