Shymkent, Kazakhstan – India’s dominant performance at the 16th Asian Shooting Championship continued on Monday, with the women’s trap team leading a surge that added three gold, four silver, and three bronze medals to the country’s tally.
Women’s Trap Gold for Neeru Dhanda
Neeru Dhanda delivered a standout performance in the women’s trap event, clinching the gold medal by defeating Qatar’s Ray Bassil by six points. Dhanda, along with bronze medalist Aashima Ahlawat and Preeti Rajak, combined to secure the team gold for India, solidifying the nation’s supremacy in the discipline.
In the men’s trap event, Bhowneesh Mendiratta added a silver medal to India’s collection, finishing behind China’s Ol Ying.
Junior Trio Sweeps Women’s Sports Pistol Podium
The most heartening performance of the day came from the junior women’s sports pistol team, who delivered a clean sweep of the individual medals. Payal Khatri won gold, while Naamya Kapoor and Tejaswani secured silver and bronze respectively. Despite their individual brilliance, the trio was edged out by Korea for the team gold.
While the senior women’s pistol team, which included stars like Manu Bhaker and Esha Singh, won a team bronze behind China and Korea, the junior team’s individual sweep showcased the depth of India’s rising talent.
India Extends Lead Atop the Medals Table
The addition of 10 medals on the day further cemented India’s position at the summit of the medals table. The country’s current tally stands at a commanding 29 gold, 13 silver, and 14 bronze medals, underscoring India’s status as a powerhouse in Asian shooting.
