Chennai : Animesh Kujur thrilled fans and dominated the men’s 200m sprint at the 64th National Inter-State Senior Athletics Championships held at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Chennai. Kujur not only clinched the gold medal but also set a new meet record with a blazing time of 20.77 seconds. This victory marked a remarkable comeback after an earlier setback in the 100m heats, showcasing his resilience and speed prowess on the national stage.
Kujur’s performance is part of an impressive ascent in Indian sprinting history—he had already lowered the national 200m record earlier in the year and is widely regarded as one of India’s brightest track talents. Coached at the Odisha-Reliance Foundation High Performance Centre, Kujur is steadily sharpening his start and bend-running technique while maintaining his powerful finishing speed. This meet gold boosts his preparation ahead of the World Championships in Tokyo, marking him as a strong medal contender on the international circuit.
