Malmo, Sweden – Indian table tennis players delivered strong performances at the Europe Smash 2025 on Tuesday, with the mixed doubles pair of Manush Shah and Diya Chitale progressing to the quarterfinals. Diya Chitale also found success in the women’s doubles, moving into the round of 16 alongside compatriot Yashaswini Ghorpade.
Mixed Doubles Duo Reaches Quarterfinals
The sixth-seeded Indian mixed doubles pair of Manush Shah and Diya Chitale showcased their strong partnership by defeating Singapore’s Pang Koen and Zeng Jian 3-1 (11-8, 11-7, 8-11, 12-10) in a hard-fought match lasting half an hour. Their victory secures them a spot in the quarterfinals, where they will face a tough challenge against either Hong Kong, China’s Wong Chun Ting and Doo Hoi Kem or Romania’s Eduard Ionescu and Bernadette Szocs, as they vie for a place in the semifinals.
Diya Chitale Continues Success in Women’s Doubles
Diya Chitale continued her impressive run, also advancing in the women’s doubles event. Partnering with fellow Indian Yashaswini Ghorpade, the duo delivered a dominant performance in the round of 32, beating Egypt’s Hana Goda and Dina Meshref 3-0 (11-6, 11-7, 11-5). The Indian pair is now set to take on the eighth-seeded German pair of Yuan Wan and Sabine Winter in the next round.
Singles Campaign Ends for Sreeja Akula
However, in the women’s singles category, Sreeja Akula exited the tournament in the round of 32. She was defeated by Macao, China’s Zhu Yuling, the seventh seed, in a 3-1 (11-9, 11-8, 6-11, 11-2) match that lasted 27 minutes. Earlier in the round of 64, Sreeja had emerged victorious from a tough all-Indian clash, overcoming compatriot Manika Batra 3-2 (5-11, 11-9, 15-13, 10-12, 11-8) in a thrilling encounter.
