Bengaluru, India – Machaxi, an innovative sports tech startup utilizing digital infrastructure for coaching, has successfully raised $1.5 million in a recent funding round. The investment was led by Rainmatter, the investment arm of online brokerage giant Zerodha, and notably saw participation from Indian badminton legend Prakash Padukone, alongside other investors.
Revolutionizing Grassroots Coaching with AI
Founded in 2022 by Pratish Raj, Ashish Anand, and Tushar Raj, Bengaluru-based Machaxi is at the forefront of revolutionizing grassroots sports coaching. The company operates training centers in Bengaluru and integrates artificial intelligence (AI)-backed programs to enhance athletic performance, focusing on detailed analysis and strategic improvement.
Ambitious Expansion Plans and Strategic Partnerships
This new infusion of capital is poised to fuel Machaxi’s ambitious expansion plans. The startup intends to scale its AI-powered training model and extend its operations into three additional cities: Hyderabad, Pune, and Chennai. A significant aspect of this expansion is a strategic collaboration with the Padukone School of Badminton. Under this partnership, Machaxi and the Padukone School aim to establish over 1,000 coaching centers across India within the next four years.
Endorsements from Key Investors and Vision for the Future
Prakash Padukone, a proponent of structured grassroots development in Indian badminton, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership. He stated that Machaxi’s vision to scale coaching while maintaining quality through AI is “forward-thinking and impactful,” and he is “thrilled to partner with them in shaping the next generation of champions.”
Nithin Kamath, founder of Zerodha and Rainmatter, highlighted that their investment aligns with Rainmatter’s broader focus on sustainability and community development. He noted that Machaxi’s “tech-driven approach to coaching, combined with a solid on-ground strategy, aligns perfectly with our mission… to back sustainable and impactful ventures.”
Machaxi co-founder Pratish Raj emphasized that the funding and partnerships are not just about growth but about fundamentally reshaping India’s sports coaching model. The goal is to create a future where every aspiring athlete can train with consistency, purpose, and access to world-class infrastructure, regardless of their background. The AI-based platform developed by Machaxi is designed to support human coaches, tracking performance and ensuring consistency in training methods, thereby making quality coaching scalable even in regions with a shortage of experienced trainers.
