Bhubaneswar : Ancy Sojan, India’s Asian Games silver medallist in long jump, secured a spot in the women’s long jump final at the World University Games in Chengdu with a best effort of 6.20 meters.
The 22-year-old athlete faced early pressure in the qualification round after fouling her first attempt and managing only 5.97 meters on her second. However, Sojan showed resilience, producing a third-attempt jump of 6.20 meters that elevated her to fourth place in Group A and 10th position overall among all competitors.
Despite not meeting the automatic qualification mark of 6.50 meters, her final effort was sufficient to place her among the top 12 athletes advancing to the final round.
Sojan, who emerged as one of India’s leading long jumpers with her silver medal performance at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, continues to build on her international credentials. The long jump final at the World University Games is expected to be a closely contested event, with Sojan aiming for a podium finish.
