Angola successfully defended their Hollywoodbets COSAFA Cup title on Sunday, cruising to a 3-0 win over hosts South Africa in the final at the Toyota Stadium in Mangaung, Bloemfontein.
The star of the show was once again Depu, who scored twice to help Angola lift their fifth COSAFA Cup trophy—tying them with South Africa on the all-time list and putting them just behind Zambia (7) and Zimbabwe (6).
South Africa nearly opened the scoring midway through the first half when Ime Okon’s header struck the crossbar, but it was Angola who made their chances count.
Depu opened the scoring with a towering header from a free-kick, not only putting Angola ahead but also setting a new single-tournament goal record with his seventh of the campaign—breaking the previous record held by Zimbabwe’s Ovidy Karuru (6 goals in 2017).
He wasn’t done yet. Just after the hour mark, Depu coolly slotted home from 10 yards after a low cross from Zini, making it 2-0 and bringing his tournament tally to an impressive eight goals. That finish also extended his all-time COSAFA Cup total to 13 goals, four clear of Eswatini’s Felix Badenhorst, and earned him his second consecutive Golden Boot.
Milson put the icing on the cake with a stunning late free-kick to seal a comprehensive 3-0 victory, ending South Africa’s hopes of a comeback in front of their home crowd.
Earlier in the day, Comoros claimed third place with a narrow 1-0 win over fellow islanders Madagascar.
