Summer McIntosh continued her incredible form at the Canadian Swimming Trials on Sunday, dominating the women’s 800m freestyle and sending another strong message to rival Katie Ledecky. Although she narrowly missed breaking Ledecky’s world record, McIntosh still delivered a blistering performance, finishing in 8:05.07 — just shy of the American’s 8:04.12 mark set last month.
This came just a day after McIntosh smashed the 400m freestyle world record, clocking 3:54.18 to surpass the previous record held by Australian Ariarne Titmus, who’s sitting out the 2025 season.
So far at the Trials, McIntosh has also picked up gold in the 200m butterfly, 200m medley, and 400m medley, and has made it clear she’s aiming to compete in five events at the World Championships in Singapore next month.
With both McIntosh and Ledecky in peak form, their upcoming showdown is shaping up to be one of the most exciting rivalries in swimming — and the 18-year-old Canadian says she’s looking forward to the challenge.
