ISSUE 29 | SEPTEMBER EDITION

Dear Readers,

In 2012 London Paralympics when Girisha Hosanagara Nagarajegowda won a silver medal in the men’s high jump, it was a lone shining moment for the country. Reason: India had failed to open its account at the 2008 edition in Beijing. So, it was definitely a special moment for millions for Indians. But was that enough? Certainly not! But something seems to have changed for the country since 2012. India won four medals in Rio in 2016 and 20 at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics. And, recently India scaled a new height in 2024 by adding 29 medals to its kitty at the Paris Paralympics. This makes us believe that the country’s attitude towards Paralympics has changed. Battling odds, our athletes have put up an extraordinary show of power and resilience, making us to believe that physical limitations can be defeated for the country to have its new heroes. We too believe in the potential of our Paralympic stars. And, hence this edition has an extensive coverage of our athletes who have made us proud in Paris Paralympic. Moving on, we also take you down the memory lane of soccer. We bring you the journey of an unsung hero of Indian football, Arjuna awardee, Bruno Coutinho. The cover story is a relook at the career of one of India’s finest strikers, who scaled dizzy heights in the 1990s. Turning to our scientific section, our editorial piece is focussed on the implementation of Artificial Intelligence in football training. We have also provided an insight into the very common, overuse injury of shin splints. We hope, our readers are greatly benefitted from this endeavour to promote sports and sports science. Also, wishing you all a very happy festive season ahead!
