Bhubaneswar : The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) is optimistic about recovering its Rs 15 crore Olympic Solidarity grant, which was withheld by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in 2024 due to governance disputes and internal infighting. The suspension came after a contentious meeting where several Executive Council members opposed the appointment of a new CEO, deepening divisions within the body.
A breakthrough came in July 2025 when IOA President PT Usha brokered a truce among members, leading to a smooth Special General Body Meeting and Executive Council session in August. Usha expressed confidence that the IOC would soon release the funds after the IOA submits formal reports on the resolution of disputes.
The Olympic Solidarity grant, funded through Olympic broadcasting revenue, is meant to support athlete training, scholarships, and preparation for major events. Its absence had strained IOA’s ability to back Indian athletes effectively for international competitions.
With reconciliation achieved, the IOA aims to restore international confidence, strengthen governance, and channel the expected funds into athlete development. This progress also aligns with India’s push to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games and its long-term ambitions for a 2036 Olympic Games bid.
