CSK Star Joins Indian Team As Arshdeep Singh Suffers Injury

Manchester, UK – The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) selection committee has swiftly responded to an injury setback, calling up Haryana and Chennai Super Kings pacer Anshul Kamboj as cover for the injured Arshdeep Singh for the upcoming fourth Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy series against England. The Indian team faces a significant challenge as they head into the Manchester Test, with concerns mounting over their fast-bowling resources.

Arshdeep Singh reportedly sustained a cut on his bowling hand during a nets session in Manchester, an injury that required stitches, making him unlikely to be available for the match at Old Trafford, starting July 23. This comes as a blow, as the left-arm pacer was being considered for a potential Test debut.

Kamboj’s Inclusion: A Strategic Move Amidst Bowling Concerns

The decision to add Anshul Kamboj to the squad is a crucial one, particularly with the team management still weighing the option of resting pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah for the Manchester Test as part of his workload management plan. Some other bowlers have also struggled to make a significant impact in the series.

Kamboj has recently impressed selectors with his strong performances, notably during the India A vs England A two-match unofficial Test series. The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) fast bowler is not only known for his tricky bowling but also for his handy contributions with the bat.4 Given head coach Gautam Gambhir’s known inclination towards multi-skill players, Kamboj’s inclusion was considered a straightforward choice.

As per an existing agreement between the Indian team management and the national selection committee, Bumrah is slated to play only three of the five Test matches to manage his workload. He played the first Test, claiming a five-wicket haul in the first innings, then missed the second Test where Akash Deep played in his place. Bumrah returned for the third match, where he picked up a five-wicket haul in the second innings, despite India’s narrow 22-run defeat.

Arshdeep Singh, though yet to make his Test debut, has already represented India in eight One Day Internationals and 63 Twenty20 Internationals, alongside 21 First-Class matches.

While an official announcement from the BCCI is still pending, Team India will likely have a selection headache, with options for the fourth Test potentially narrowed down to Kamboj, Shardul Thakur, and Prasidh Krishna, should Bumrah be rested for the crucial encounter in Manchester.
