London, UK– West Ham United have secured the services of Senegal defender El Hadji Malick Diouf, with the Premier League club announcing his transfer from Slavia Prague on a long-term deal on Tuesday, July 15, 2025. While financial details were not officially disclosed, British media reports indicate that the Hammers paid an initial fee of approximately £19 million ($25.43 million) for the promising 20-year-old.
A Rising Star Joins the Hammers
Diouf arrives at the London Stadium having already made a name for himself on the international stage. He was a key part of the Senegal team that achieved a historic 3-1 victory over England in a friendly last month – marking the first time an African team had beaten England in 22 matches. The left-sided full-back or wing-back, who will wear the No. 12 shirt, expressed his excitement about the move.
“There were a lot of teams [who wanted to sign me], but I chose West Ham United first and I spoke with the coach [Graham Potter] and it was a good plan for me,” Diouf stated. “Everyone wants to come here to play in the Premier League. I think it is a dream for everyone.”
Potter Welcomes Promising Talent
West Ham Head Coach Graham Potter conveyed his delight at securing the young talent. “We are very pleased to welcome El Hadji Malick to West Ham United,” said Potter. “He is a young player we have been watching for some time, and somebody that we believe can be a really good fit for what we are trying to build at the Club.” Potter also highlighted Diouf’s strong character and maturity, having moved from Senegal to Norway at 18, and then to Prague, consistently delivering high-level performances.
Diouf is West Ham’s third signing of the summer, as the club reshapes its defence following departures. He is expected to join the Irons’ pre-season training camp in Germany this week. West Ham United will kick off their 2025-26 Premier League campaign on August 16 with an away trip to newly-promoted Sunderland.
