Bengaluru, India- Janaki Oram, a talented para-athlete from Odisha, has brought glory to her home state by securing a silver medal in the Women’s 100m T12 category at the 7th Indian Open Para Athletics International Championships 2025. The prestigious event, held in Bengaluru, served as a crucial stepping stone for Indian athletes aiming for the upcoming World Para Athletics Championships in New Delhi later this year.
A Stellar Performance
Competing in the Women’s 100m (T12 & T13) event, Janaki Oram demonstrated remarkable determination and speed, clocking a time of 14.20 seconds. She finished second only to Simran from Uttar Pradesh, who took the gold with a time of 12.30 seconds. Goa’s Sakshi Kale secured the bronze medal with 14.90 seconds.
This achievement marks another significant milestone for Janaki, who has been consistently performing well in national competitions. Hailing from Sambalpur district, Janaki had previously won a silver medal in the women’s T12 100m event at the 2nd Khelo India Para Games in New Delhi in March 2025, and a bronze medal in the same event at the 23rd National Para Athletics Championship in Chennai earlier this year.
Gateway to World Championships
The 7th Indian Open Para Athletics International Championships is a pivotal event, acting as the final selection trial for the Indian contingent preparing for the New Delhi 2025 World Para Athletics Championships. Janaki Oram’s silver medal performance firmly places her among the top contenders to represent India on the international stage.
