Duplantis Reigns Supreme in Ostrava; Holloway Upset Again

Armand Duplantis, Sweden’s pole vault sensation, continued his dominant season by winning at the Golden Spike meet in Ostrava, Czech Republic, on Tuesday. The 25-year-old double Olympic champion effortlessly cleared 6.13m, showcasing his unmatched skill. Though he attempted to set a new world record at 6.29m, just nine days after setting his latest record of 6.28m, he was unsuccessful. Still, Duplantis was in a league of his own, with Greece’s Emmanouil Karalis taking second place, well behind at 6.02m. “I feel pretty good about it. I can’t complain too much. Overall, I feel like I jumped really well,” Duplantis said after his win.

Hurdles and Track Highlights

In other events, reigning Olympic champion Grant Holloway faced another setback in the 110m hurdles, losing to his U.S. compatriot Dylan Beard for the second time in four days. Holloway, who finished fifth at the Paris Diamond League last Friday where Beard placed second, was narrowly edged out by Beard at the finish line in Ostrava, with both clocking 13.13 seconds.

On the women’s side, South Africa’s Prudence Sekgodiso delivered an impressive performance, winning the 800m in 1:57.16, marking the second-fastest time this season. The 400m saw Femke Bol, a triple medalist from last year’s Paris Olympics, finish third in her first start in the event this season (49.98sec), as Bahrain’s Salwa Eid Naser claimed victory with 49.15 seconds.

Kenya’s 18-year-old Phanuel Kipkosgei Koech won the men’s 1500 meters in 3:29.05. Thelma Davies of Liberia set a new national record in the women’s 100m with an impressive 10.91 seconds. Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan secured the win in the women’s 110m hurdles in 12.45 seconds. In the women’s javelin, Serbia’s Adriana Vilagos caused an upset, throwing 64.87m to defeat reigning Olympic and Diamond League champion Haruka Kitaguchi by 99 centimeters.
