Pro Wrestling League Season 6 Returns to Delhi as India’s Asian Games Stars Take Centre Stage

Subheadline: Pro Wrestling League Season 6 will run from January 9 to 26, 2027, with 86 wrestlers, six franchises and 34 international medallists competing in New Delhi after the felicitation of Sujeet Kalkal, Aman Sehrawat and India’s other Asian Games wrestling medallists.

The Pro Wrestling League Season 6 launch has given Indian wrestling two reasons to look ahead: the return of franchise competition and the celebration of a remarkable Asian Games campaign. At the October 9 launch in New Delhi, gold medallists Sujeet Kalkal and Aman Sehrawat, along with Antim Panghal and three other Indian medal winners, were felicitated following India’s six-medal performance at the 2026 Asian Games. The league itself will feature 86 wrestlers, including 34 international medallists, across six franchises from January 9 to 26, 2027. With Olympic-level talent expected on the mat, PWL’s return could provide Indian wrestlers with an important platform to test themselves against elite opposition.

Pro Wrestling League Season 6: Dates, Venue and Six Franchises

The sixth season of the Pro Wrestling League will take place at the KD Jadhav Wrestling Arena inside New Delhi’s Indira Gandhi Stadium. The January 9–26 schedule brings the competition back to the capital, a city with a deep wrestling tradition and a strong following for the sport.

Six franchises will compete: Tiigers of Mumbai Dangals, Haryana Thunders, Delhi Dangal Warriors, Maharashtra Kesari, Punjab Royals and UP Dominators. The league operates under the aegis of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), and its organisers say the return is intended to bring top-level wrestling closer to fans.

PWL chairman Dayaan Farooqui said the league’s vision was to stage the competition in a different franchise city each season. He said: “Our vision has always been to take the League to a different franchise city each season, bringing world-class wrestling closer to fans across the country.”

Pro Wrestling League Season 6: 86 Wrestlers and 34 International Medallists

The scale of the competition is one of its biggest attractions. The 86-wrestler field will include 34 international medallists, with six franchises competing across five men’s and four women’s Olympic weight categories.

Japanese Olympic champion Yui Susaki is among the international stars expected to feature. Her presence would give Indian wrestlers the opportunity to face a globally established competitor in a franchise environment, where individual performances can directly influence a team’s result.

The format will retain two rounds of three-minute bouts. A distinctive feature is the Power Minute, under which points scored during the final 60 seconds are doubled. That rule can turn a close contest on its head, rewarding wrestlers who maintain their attacking intent until the final whistle.

Sujeet Kalkal and Aman Sehrawat Lead the Asian Games Wrestling Honours

The league launch also celebrated six Indian wrestlers who returned from the 2026 Asian Games with medals. Sujeet Kalkal won gold in men’s freestyle 65kg, while Aman Sehrawat claimed gold in men’s freestyle 57kg. Antim Panghal earned silver in women’s 53kg wrestling, Nitesh Siwach won silver in Greco-Roman 97kg, and Deepak Punia and Sunil Kumar secured bronze medals.

India finished the Asian Games wrestling competition with six medals—two gold, two silver and two bronze. The campaign was a major achievement for the team, with Kalkal and Sehrawat leading the gold-medal charge.

Sujeet Kalkal’s Pro Wrestling League Journey

Kalkal’s recognition was especially meaningful because he has previously spoken about the role PWL played in his development. He said the league provided opportunities to learn from and compete against some of the world’s best wrestlers, building the confidence and experience needed for bigger international challenges.

“The Pro Wrestling League has played an important role in my journey as a wrestler,” Kalkal said, describing the exposure he gained through the competition. He added that being honoured as an Asian Games gold medallist made him reflect on how far his career had progressed.

Kalkal’s Asian Games gold in the 65kg category also ended India’s eight-year wait for a gold medal in the discipline at the Games. His next challenge is to turn that success into consistent results at senior international competitions.

Aman Sehrawat: From Olympic Bronze to Asian Games Gold

Aman Sehrawat was also honoured after adding an Asian Games gold medal to the bronze he won at the Paris 2024 Olympics. The 57kg freestyle wrestler’s journey reflects the demands of maintaining elite form across different competitions and weight-management cycles.

Speaking at the launch, Sehrawat said winning medals at the Olympics and Asian Games rewarded years of sacrifice, discipline and hard work. He also welcomed the league’s return to Delhi, saying he hoped it would bring wrestling to new audiences and inspire the next generation.

For both Sehrawat and Kalkal, PWL offers a chance to remain connected with domestic wrestling while helping younger athletes see what it takes to compete at the highest level.

Pro Wrestling League Season 6: Can Haryana Thunders Defend Their Crown?

The previous edition ended with Haryana Thunders defeating Delhi Dangal Warriors 5–4 in the final to retain the title. That narrow scoreline illustrated the importance of every bout in the team-based competition, where one result can decide the championship.

With six franchises returning, the contest for the title is expected to involve both established Indian wrestlers and international medal winners. The Power Minute rule adds another tactical dimension, as teams must manage their wrestlers’ energy and scoring opportunities carefully.

Delhi’s status as host city will also give the league a chance to attract a wider audience. For the participating franchises, the challenge will be to build balanced squads across the men’s and women’s weight categories rather than rely on a single star performer.

Why Pro Wrestling League Season 6 Matters for Indian Wrestling

The return of Pro Wrestling League Season 6 comes at a time when Indian wrestling is celebrating a strong Asian Games campaign and preparing for further international challenges. A competition featuring 86 wrestlers and 34 international medallists can give domestic athletes valuable exposure to different styles, tactics and high-pressure situations.

The league’s team format also offers fans a different way to follow wrestling. Rather than focusing only on individual medals, supporters can follow franchise rivalries, tactical match-ups and the impact of each bout on the overall team score.

When the season begins on January 9, the spotlight will be on the six franchises, the international stars and the Indian medal winners returning to the mat. After its launch ceremony in Delhi, the Pro Wrestling League now has a clear target: turn the excitement around its return into a compelling season of competitive wrestling.
