India Football Camp Sees Key Players Join

The India Football Camp in Bengaluru has received some important additions, with Ashique Kuruniyan and Ryan Williams joining the national team setup ahead of the September-October international window. Both players took part in the evening training session after reporting to camp.

Midfielder Anirudh Thapa also joined the group, while defender Mehtab Singh was called up as additional defensive cover. Mehtab was not included in Khalid Jamil’s original 26-member squad but has now been brought into the setup as the coach deals with player availability issues.

India began its preparatory camp on September 14, with Jamil initially hoping to use the extended period to prepare his squad for three demanding fixtures.

India Football Camp Loses Ricky Meetei Haobam

One of the immediate setbacks for the India Football Camp is the absence of defender Ricky Meetei Haobam.

Ricky was part of Jamil’s original squad but will not join the camp because of an injury. His absence has prompted the Indian head coach to bring in Mehtab Singh, providing another option in defence ahead of the international fixtures.

The situation comes after only 16 players were available for training on the opening day of the camp, with several players still involved with their clubs. Jamil has therefore had to manage a squad that has not been able to train together from the beginning.

India Football Camp Builds Towards Panama Friendly

India’s first international assignment will be against Panama in Bengaluru on September 26. The Blue Tigers will then travel to Kolkata for two high-profile fixtures against Brazil on October 3 and Uruguay on October 6. The schedule has been confirmed by the All India Football Federation.

The three opponents all featured at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, giving Jamil’s team a demanding test during the international window. The camp in Bengaluru is therefore important for building tactical understanding and assessing players before the matches begin.

India Football Camp Faces Club Release Issues

Player availability has also been influenced by domestic club commitments. East Bengal are involved in the AFC Champions League Two, while Mohun Bagan have commitments in the Calcutta Football League.

Sahal Abdul Samad and Manvir Singh are expected to join the national setup after the CFL title decider on September 19. Thapa, meanwhile, was dealing with an injury before joining the camp.

The AIFF had originally named a 26-player squad for the three friendlies, with four additional players placed on standby.

India Football Camp Enters Crucial Preparation Phase

With the Panama match approaching, Jamil now has to work with the players available while gradually integrating those returning from club duties.

The arrival of Ashique, Ryan, Thapa and Mehtab gives the coach more options, but Ricky’s injury adds another complication. With Brazil and Uruguay waiting in Kolkata after the Panama game, the coming days of the India Football Camp will be important in determining how settled the squad can become before the international window begins.
