Mukesh Kumar Joins Nottinghamshire For County Stint
In-form India pacer Mukesh Kumar has joined Nottinghamshire and will feature in the final two fixtures of the 2026 English County Championship season.
The 32-year-old has 26 international appearances across formats, including three Tests, and has taken 32 wickets for India.
“I am really pleased to sign for Nottinghamshire at an important time in the season. I can’t wait to arrive in England and test myself in county cricket,” Mukesh said in a statement issued by the club.
“I want to contribute as much as I can while I am here to help Nottinghamshire to success, and I am looking forward to working with the coaches and my new teammates,” he added.
Mukesh Kumar Eyes New County Challenge
The stint at Trent Bridge will be a new experience for Mukesh, as it will be the first time in his career that he has represented a domestic team outside Bengal.
The pacer said playing in England presents a fresh challenge and expressed his eagerness to adapt to new conditions.
“Coming to England is always a good challenge, and I am excited by the chance to play for a new team in new conditions,” Mukesh said.
“I will give everything while I am part of Nottinghamshire, and I hope together, we can be successful.”
Duleep Trophy Form Earns Praise
Mukesh arrives in England after an impressive campaign in the Duleep Trophy, where he emerged as the tournament’s leading wicket-taker.
He claimed 12 wickets at an outstanding average of 14.91 and played a key role in East Zone’s title triumph over South Zone in the final.
Nottinghamshire head coach Peter Moores welcomed the India pacer and highlighted his match readiness following his recent domestic commitments.
“We’re really excited to get Mukesh over at what is a crucial time of the season. He comes straight off the back of a really competitive game in the Duleep Trophy final, in which he was on the winning team and played a pivotal role in securing the win for East Zone,” Moores said.
Nottinghamshire Back India Pacer
Moores also backed Mukesh’s quality and said Nottinghamshire were fortunate to secure a bowler arriving in strong competitive form.
“Mukesh’s quality as a bowler is not in question, knowing how hard it is to compete to play in the Indian team,” he said.
“It’s fantastic for us to get a player who’s match-ready and in full competitive mode ahead of two big games for the club.”
Mukesh will now look to make an immediate impact for Nottinghamshire as the English County Championship season enters its final stage.
