Anahat Singh Stuns Higher-Ranked Farida In Qatar Classic Opener

India’s Anahat Singh continued her impressive run after the World Junior Championship triumph, defeating higher-ranked Egyptian Farida Mohamed in four games in the opening round of the USD 242,000 Qatar Classic here on Saturday.

The world No. 20 prevailed over the 16th-ranked Mohamed 13-11, 3-11, 11-7, 11-7 to make a strong start at the season’s first PSA Platinum event.

Anahat Singh Continues Winning Run

Fresh from becoming the world junior squash champion in July, Anahat showed composure against a higher-ranked opponent to secure her place in the second round.

The Indian teenager recovered after dropping the second game and took control of the contest by winning the next two games 11-7, 11-7.

Her reward is a second-round meeting with Belgium’s world No. 9 Tinne Gilis, another stern test for the 18-year-old.

Abhay Singh, Veer Chotrani Begin Campaign

India’s other leading squash players, world No. 24 Abhay Singh and world No. 38 Veer Chotrani, are scheduled to begin their Qatar Classic campaigns later on Saturday.

The event provides valuable competition ahead of the Asian Games in Japan, where India will field a strong challenge in squash singles.
