Indian judoka Unnati Sharma advanced to the women’s 63kg semifinals at the Commonwealth Games after registering two impressive victories, while Harsh Tokas, Karanjit Singh Maan and Inunganbi Takhellambam suffered quarterfinal defeats in Glasgow on Saturday.
Unnati began her campaign with a commanding Round of 16 win over Eswatini’s Lamulela Magagula, securing victory by ippon in just one minute and 39 seconds after scoring two successive waza-ari.
Unnati Continues Strong Run Into Last Four
The Indian judoka followed up her dominant opening performance with a hard-fought quarterfinal victory against New Zealand’s Qona Christie.
Unnati prevailed by waza-ari after also registering a yuko, booking her place in the semifinals and moving within one win of a Commonwealth Games medal.
Karanjit, Tokas And Inunganbi Get Repechage Chance
In the men’s 90kg category, Karanjit Singh Maan defeated New Zealand’s Elliott Connolly by ippon before falling to Canada’s Guillaume Gaulin in the quarterfinals, also by ippon. He will now face Scotland’s Scott Cusack in the repechage.
Harsh Tokas narrowly lost his men’s 81kg quarterfinal to Cyprus’ Odysseas Georgakis, who secured the contest with a yuko. Tokas will take on Samoa’s Peniamina Percival in the repechage.
Meanwhile, Inunganbi Takhellambam suffered an ippon defeat to Canada’s Charlie Thibault in the women’s 70kg quarterfinal after conceding an early yuko. She will meet England’s Jemima Yeats-Brown in the repechage as she looks to stay in medal contention.
