Tennis legends Serena Williams and Venus Williams are set to reunite on the Wimbledon stage after being awarded a wildcard for the women’s doubles competition.

The sisters, who have won six Wimbledon doubles titles together, will play at the All England Club for the first time as a pair since the 2022 US Open.

Serena Continues Remarkable Comeback

The wildcard comes as Serena continues her unexpected return to professional tennis. The 44-year-old made her comeback at Queen’s Club last week, four years after what many believed was her final appearance at the 2022 US Open.

The 23-time Grand Slam singles champion is currently competing in doubles alongside Karolina Muchova in Berlin before heading to Wimbledon.

Despite receiving a doubles wildcard, neither Williams sister has been included among the initial singles wildcard selections, although one women’s singles wildcard remains available.

Historic Wimbledon Legacy

The Williams sisters transformed women’s tennis after emerging in the late 1990s with their power, athleticism and dominance.

Together they have claimed 30 Grand Slam singles titles, including 12 Wimbledon crowns. Their six Wimbledon women’s doubles titles came between 2000 and 2016, cementing their status as one of the sport’s greatest partnerships.

Venus, a five-time Wimbledon singles champion, has played a limited schedule in recent seasons. The 45-year-old recorded a doubles victory alongside Katie Boulter at the Madrid Open earlier this year.

Wildcard Decisions Spark Debate

While the Williams sisters were welcomed into the doubles field, former British number one Dan Evans missed out on a men’s singles wildcard despite announcing that this season will be his last.

Three-time Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka and former Wimbledon semi-finalist Grigor Dimitrov were among the recipients of men’s singles wildcards.

On the women’s side, French Open runner-up Maja Chwalinska received a wildcard following her impressive run at Roland Garros.

A Special Return To Centre Stage

The reunion of Serena and Venus is expected to be one of the biggest stories of the tournament. More than three decades after they first emerged as teenage prodigies, the sisters will once again share a Wimbledon court and add another chapter to one of tennis’ most iconic partnerships.

The 2026 Wimbledon Championships begin on 29 June, with fans set to witness the latest appearance of two players who helped redefine the modern era of women’s tennis.
