The Badminton World Federation (BWF) has officially awarded the 2027 BWF World Senior Championships to Geelong, Australia, bringing one of the sport’s most prestigious age-group events to the Oceania region. The tournament is scheduled to take place in Victoria’s second-largest city and is expected to attract thousands of veteran badminton players from around the globe.

The BWF World Senior Championships is held every two years and features competition across multiple age categories, starting from 35+ and extending to 80+ and above. Players compete in men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles, and mixed doubles events, making it one of the largest gatherings in international badminton.

The selection of Geelong highlights Australia’s growing reputation as a destination for major badminton events. The country has recently expanded its role on the global badminton calendar, and hosting the World Senior Championships is expected to provide a significant boost to both participation and visibility of the sport across Australia and the wider Oceania region.

The previous edition of the championships was staged in Pattaya, Thailand, while the 2027 tournament will give senior athletes from across the world an opportunity to compete on Australian soil. The event traditionally attracts competitors from dozens of nations and showcases the enduring passion and high standards of badminton among veteran players.

Local organizers and Badminton Australia are expected to work closely with the BWF and state authorities to deliver a world-class championship experience. Beyond the competition itself, the tournament is also anticipated to generate tourism benefits for Geelong and Victoria through international visitor arrivals and extended stays.
