Indian Grandmaster R Praggnanandhaa will resume his campaign at the Super Chess Classic with a sixth-round clash against Romania’s Bogdan-Daniel Deac following the tournament’s rest day in Bucharest.
Praggnanandhaa currently sits among the joint second-placed players after five rounds, trailing Germany’s Vincent Keymer by half a point in the prestigious Grand Chess Tour event.
The Indian chess star has registered one victory and four draws so far in the tournament. His lone win came against Javokhir Sindarov in the second round, but he will now look to return to winning ways as the competition enters a crucial phase.
Praggnanandhaa faces a challenging schedule ahead, with clashes against top contenders including Fabiano Caruana, Maxime Vachier-Lagrave and Anish Giri still remaining in the second half of the tournament.
Meanwhile, Keymer has emerged as the standout performer so far and climbed to world number four in the live rankings after taking sole lead in the standings with 3.5 points.
American Grandmaster Fabiano Caruana also boosted his title hopes after defeating France’s Alireza Firouzja in a delayed fourth-round game that concluded on the rest day.
