United World Wrestling (UWW) has officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Smoothcomp AB to collaborate on digital solutions and event management systems for associated combat sports including Grappling, Pankration and Amateur MMA.
The agreement was signed in Lausanne, Switzerland and will initially remain in effect for 12 months. Under the partnership, UWW will evaluate Smoothcomp’s competition software and explore ways to improve athlete registration, tournament management and live event operations.
The move reflects UWW’s growing push toward technology-driven management systems as combat sports continue expanding globally.
Focus on grappling and amateur MMA growth
The partnership is expected to play an important role in the development of amateur MMA and grappling competitions under the UWW umbrella.
Smoothcomp’s platform already supports various combat sports worldwide with services such as online registration, scheduling, bracket systems, live scoring and event administration.
UWW said the agreement would also help support pilot projects and future development initiatives connected to associated combat sports.
The governing body has been increasingly active in expanding amateur MMA structures over the last few years, especially after officially bringing MMA under its governance framework in 2023.
