Hockey India has officially opened player registrations for the Hockey India League (HIL) 2027 Player Auction, marking the beginning of preparations for the next edition of the country’s premier franchise hockey competition.
The player auction is scheduled to take place in September 2026, while the tournament itself will begin in January 2027.
Registrations Open For Global Talent
Hockey India confirmed that registrations are now open for eligible Indian and international players from several leading hockey nations. The move comes after the successful revival of the league in the 2024-25 season and the growing popularity of the 2025-26 edition.
In the men’s category, players from countries including India, Netherlands, Belgium, Australia, Germany, Argentina, England and Spain are eligible to register. The women’s category will feature players from nations such as India, Netherlands, Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Germany and the United States among others.
Player registrations opened on May 15 and will continue until July 24, 2026.
HIL’s Global Appeal Continues To Grow
The Hockey India League has rapidly regained its status as one of the biggest franchise-based hockey tournaments in the world since its comeback.
Last season saw participation from eight men’s teams and four women’s franchises, while more than 1,000 players registered for the auction across both categories.
The previous edition also delivered strong competition on the field, with SG Pipers winning the women’s title and Vedanta Kalinga Lancers lifting the men’s championship trophy.
Dilip Tirkey Highlights League’s Growth
Hockey India president Dilip Tirkey praised the growth of the competition and said the league has once again established itself as a major platform for world hockey.
According to Tirkey, the response from players around the world reflects the increasing stature of the tournament and its importance in strengthening India’s hockey ecosystem.
Hockey India secretary general Bhola Nath Singh also said the strong participation numbers from recent editions show the trust players have in the league and its long-term future.
Big Opportunity For Emerging Players
The HIL continues to provide a major platform for young Indian players to compete alongside some of the world’s best hockey stars.
With franchise hockey gaining popularity again in India, the 2027 edition is expected to attract another strong pool of international and domestic talent.
