Arthur Fils has calmed concerns surrounding his fitness ahead of Roland Garros after revealing that medical tests following his retirement at the Italian Open came back clear.
The 21-year-old Frenchman was forced to retire from his second-round match at the Internazionali BNL d’Italia in Rome after just four games against Italian qualifier Andrea Pellegrino. The sudden withdrawal sparked fears of another injury setback for one of the ATP Tour’s brightest young stars.
However, Fils quickly reassured supporters through social media, explaining that the issue was precautionary and that there was no serious damage detected.
“Everything Is Clear,” Says Fils
The French star confirmed that he felt discomfort during the match in Rome but chose not to take unnecessary risks with the French Open approaching rapidly.
Fils stated that all medical tests conducted with his team returned positive results and added that he had already resumed preparations for Paris.
The update comes as a major relief for French tennis fans, especially given the impressive form Fils has shown during the clay-court season.
Strong Return After Long Injury Layoff
Fils only returned to competitive action earlier this year after spending several months sidelined with a back injury that disrupted much of his 2025 season.
Despite that setback, the young Frenchman has enjoyed a remarkable comeback campaign in 2026.
He captured the Barcelona Open title last month and also produced strong performances in Doha, Indian Wells, Miami, and Madrid, where he reached the semi-finals before losing to World No. 1 Jannik Sinner.
His aggressive baseline game and athletic movement have made him one of the most dangerous rising stars on the ATP Tour.

With Roland Garros now just weeks away, Fils is expected to remain one of the home favourites in Paris.
The Frenchman had endured heartbreak at last year’s tournament after injury issues disrupted his campaign, making this latest positive medical update even more important ahead of another Grand Slam opportunity.
