Warwickshire County Cricket Club completed a crushing 377-run victory over Yorkshire County Cricket Club on the fourth morning of their Rothesay County Championship Division One clash at Edgbaston.

The hosts wrapped up the emphatic win after dismissing Yorkshire for 171 in their second innings while defending a massive target of 549.

The triumph marked Warwickshire’s second-largest Championship win by runs in the club’s history, just one short of their 378-run victory against Northamptonshire back in 1927.

Seam attack finishes the job

Ethan Bamber starred with the ball on the final morning, taking 4-50, while veteran seamer Olly Hannon-Dalby claimed 3-33 to finish with impressive match figures of 7-71 against his former county.

Matthew Revis top-scored for Yorkshire with 41, while Dom Bess remained unbeaten on 39, but the visitors never seriously threatened the daunting chase.

Yorkshire resumed the final day on 98-5 and briefly hoped for either resistance from the lower order or poor weather to save them. However, after only a short rain delay, Warwickshire’s seamers quickly regained control.

Warwickshire dominate after poor start

Despite struggling on the opening day, Warwickshire completely turned the contest around over the next two-and-a-half days.

The home side first bowled Yorkshire out for 152 before piling up a commanding 553-6 declared in their second innings.

Sam Hain played a key role with an unbeaten 164, supported by strong contributions from Rob Yates (81), Dan Mousley (70) and captain Ed Barnard (60).

The Warwickshire slip cordon also impressed throughout the match, with Yates taking multiple catches as Yorkshire’s innings fell apart under sustained pressure.

Westwood praises growing belief

Warwickshire head coach Ian Westwood praised the character shown by his side after losing early momentum on day one.

He highlighted Hain’s unbeaten century as one of the standout performances of the match and said the squad’s confidence continues to grow with every result.

Warwickshire will now head into their next home fixture against Glamorgan believing they can mount a serious title challenge this season.

McGrath disappointed by Yorkshire collapse

Yorkshire coach Anthony McGrath admitted his side were comprehensively outplayed after making a strong start to the contest.

The visitors had reduced Warwickshire to 110-4 at one stage but failed to maintain pressure as the match slipped away.

McGrath said Warwickshire demonstrated exactly how to bowl on the Edgbaston surface and criticised his side’s inability to maintain consistency with both bat and ball.

Yorkshire will now turn their attention to next week’s clash against reigning champions Surrey County Cricket Club at Headingley.
