The Africa Senior Weightlifting Championships is set to bring together some of the continent’s top lifters as athletes chase medals, rankings and momentum ahead of future Olympic qualification events.
The tournament will feature more than 200 athletes from around 30 African nations competing across multiple men’s and women’s weight categories in Egypt.
Several established stars and emerging talents are expected to headline the competition, including strong contenders from Nigeria, Algeria, Egypt and Tunisia.
Nigeria’s squad includes experienced lifters aiming to continue the country’s rich weightlifting tradition, while Algeria also arrives with a talented group featuring multiple medal hopefuls.
The championships are gaining added importance as nations begin preparing seriously for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, where weightlifting remains one of the most competitive medal sports globally.
