Dubai Basketball strengthened their growing reputation in European basketball after crushing Spartak Office Shoes 102-74 in Game 1 of the ABA League quarterfinals.
The UAE-based club dominated from the opening quarter at Zetra Arena in Sarajevo and never allowed their opponents back into the contest.
Explosive Offense and Defensive Intensity
Dubai Basketball raced to an early 31-22 lead in the opening quarter before extending their advantage to 54-41 by halftime. The team’s defensive pressure and fast-paced ball movement overwhelmed Spartak throughout the game.
The decisive moment came during the third quarter when Dubai exploded offensively again, stretching the lead to 84-59 before an 11-0 run early in the final period completely ended the contest.
Musa and Kabengele Lead the Charge
Bosnian star Džanan Musa delivered one of his best performances of the season, scoring a season-high 31 points in ABA League action.
Meanwhile, Canadian forward Mfiondu Kabengele contributed a dominant all-round performance with 16 points, 12 rebounds and five assists.
Head coach Aleksander Sekulić praised the team’s defensive reaction after a lengthy break in the schedule, emphasizing the importance of maintaining focus heading into Game 2.
UAE Basketball Project Gaining Global Attention
Founded only in 2023, Dubai Basketball has rapidly become one of the most ambitious basketball projects outside Europe’s traditional powerhouses. The club currently competes in both the ABA League and the EuroLeague.
The franchise has attracted international stars and growing fan support while positioning Dubai as a rising hub for professional basketball in the Middle East.
Earlier this season, Dubai Basketball secured top spot in the ABA League Top 8 stage, earning home-court advantage for the playoffs.
Sports Science Behind Dubai’s Success
Dubai Basketball’s rapid progress has also highlighted the increasing role of sports science in elite basketball.
Modern teams now rely heavily on recovery monitoring, player-load management and performance analytics to handle packed schedules involving domestic leagues and European competition.
The club’s ability to maintain high defensive intensity deep into games reflects advanced conditioning strategies, especially important during back-to-back travel-heavy fixtures across Europe.
Semifinal Spot Within Reach
Dubai Basketball now need just one more victory in Subotica on May 10 to book their place in the ABA League semifinals.
With momentum, squad depth and growing confidence, the UAE franchise continues pushing toward one of the biggest achievements in Middle Eastern basketball history.
