Kobbie Mainoo has signed a new long-term contract with Manchester United, committing his future to the club until 2031.

The 21-year-old midfielder’s previous deal was set to run until 2027, but the new agreement ends months of uncertainty surrounding his future.

From uncertainty to key role

Mainoo had struggled for game time under former manager Ruben Amorim and even pushed for a loan move to Napoli during the January transfer window.

However, the club rejected the move and urged him to stay and fight for his place — a decision that has since paid off.

Revival under Carrick

Since the departure of Amorim, Mainoo has become a regular starter under interim boss Michael Carrick, featuring in almost every league match.

His improved performances have also earned him a recall to the England squad, where he recently featured in international friendlies.

Academy product thriving

A product of United’s academy, Mainoo joined the club at the age of six and made his senior debut in 2023. He has since made 98 appearances and scored seven goals.

He described the club as “home” and expressed his desire to help United compete for major trophies in the coming years.

Bright future ahead

United’s director of football Jason Wilcox praised Mainoo’s talent, professionalism and character, calling him one of the most gifted young players in the game.

With his future now secured, Mainoo is expected to play a central role in Manchester United’s plans as they aim to return to the top level of European football.
