India’s para badminton contingent delivered a commanding performance at the Spanish Para Badminton International 2026, with Pramod Bhagat and Sukant Kadam leading a rich medal haul in Vitoria, Spain. The tournament turned into a showcase of India’s depth and consistency, with medals flowing across categories and several players stepping up on the big stage.
Bhagat’s Double Gold Brilliance
At the heart of India’s campaign was Bhagat, who once again underlined his pedigree with two gold medals and a silver.
He clinched the men’s singles SL3 title after a hard-fought three-game win over compatriot Nitesh Kumar. After taking the opening game, Bhagat had to recover from a strong response before sealing the decider with composure.
He followed it up with another gold in mixed doubles SL3-SU5 alongside Manisha Ramdass. The Indian pair bounced back from a first-game loss to secure victory in a tightly contested final. Bhagat also added a silver in men’s doubles, partnering Kadam, finishing runners-up in an all-Indian final.
Reflecting on his campaign, Bhagat indicated that the tournament tested his resilience, especially in the singles final, and that staying composed in key moments made the difference.
Kadam Shines in Singles
Kadam ensured India’s dominance extended across categories, producing a clinical display in the men’s singles SL4 final. He defeated Korea’s Cho Nadan in straight games, controlling the match with precision and consistency to claim gold. Kadam suggested that he felt in control throughout the contest and was able to execute his strategy effectively, reflecting the hard work put in over recent months.
Strong All-Round Medal Haul
India’s success was not limited to its star names. The team registered podium finishes across multiple events, highlighting its growing bench strength. Alongside Bhagat’s gold, Nitesh Kumar secured silver and Jagdish Dilli earned bronze in the SL3 category.
In women’s singles SU5, Manisha Ramdass added another gold, while Thulasimathi Murugesan finished with silver. There were also multiple bronze medals across doubles and mixed events, underlining India’s all-round performance at the tournament.
