India’s women’s doubles pair Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand suffered a major setback after being forced to retire hurt in the opening round of the Swiss Open (badminton) 2026 in Basel.
The Indian duo was playing against Chinese Taipei’s Hu Ling Fang and Jheng Yu Chieh when the match took an unfortunate turn. Midway through the first game, Treesa experienced discomfort in her right leg, forcing the pair to withdraw from the contest. At that moment, the Indians were trailing 7–13 in the opening game.
The injury meant an abrupt end to their campaign in the BWF Super 300 tournament, handing the victory to the Taipei pair. The withdrawal was particularly disappointing as the Indian duo had been hoping for a strong run in Basel after recent mixed results on the international circuit.
This also marked the second consecutive first-round exit for Treesa and Gayatri after their early elimination at the All England Open Badminton Championshi.
With the injury cutting short their Swiss Open journey, the focus will now be on recovery for the young Indian pair as they aim to return stronger in upcoming tournaments on the BWF World Tour.
