India’s premier shot putter Tajinderpal Singh Toor returned to the top of the podium as he won the men’s shot put gold at the Indian Open Throws Competition in Patiala, delivering a winning throw of 20.32 metres.
The Asian Games champion looked in control throughout the event, comfortably finishing ahead of the rest of the field. The competition served as an important performance assessment meet for Toor as he continues to build form for the international season ahead.
Toor, one of India’s most decorated field athletes, holds the national record of 21.77m, which he set in 2023. The powerful thrower has been a dominant force in Asian athletics, winning gold medals at both the 2018 and 2022 Asian Games.
The Patiala event also featured several top Indian throwers, including Sanjana Reddy and Mrs. Reddy in the women’s category, making it an important domestic competition for athletes looking to gauge their readiness for upcoming international tournaments.
For Toor, however, the result was another reminder of his class. With the Paris Olympic cycle and major global competitions approaching, the Indian shot put star will be aiming to push closer to his national record and deliver strong performances on the world stage.
