Abu Dhabi : Emirati sprinter Maryam Al Farsi, the first female athlete from the UAE to compete in Olympic sprinting, has already turned her focus to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, determined to make her country proud once again.

Al Farsi created history at the Paris 2024 Olympics by competing in the women’s 100m at just 16 years of age, a landmark moment for Emirati athletics. Reflecting on her Olympic experience, she said her biggest achievement was not just racing on the world’s biggest stage, but representing the UAE and Arab women in elite sport.

“I was proud to carry the UAE flag and show that Emirati girls can compete at the highest level,” Al Farsi said, as quoted by The National.

According to The National, the young sprinter drew inspiration from sharing the Olympic stage with some of the sport’s biggest stars and believes the experience has strengthened her ambition ahead of LA 2028. While continuing her athletic journey, Al Farsi is also balancing training with her A-level studies and university plans, showing maturity beyond her years.

The report by The National also highlights her gratitude towards the UAE Athletics Federation and the National Olympic Committee, whose support has helped fast-track her development. Al Farsi plans to return to competition through domestic and international meets as part of her long-term Olympic preparation.

With four years to grow stronger, faster and more experienced, Maryam Al Farsi remains focused on one goal — flying the UAE flag proudly once again on the Olympic stage in Los Angeles.
