Young Indian Athletes Rule Global Sports In 2025

In 2025, Indian sport witnessed a defining shift as a new generation of athletes stamped its authority on the global stage. Across disciplines, young competitors not only matched elite international standards but consistently delivered historic performances. From packed cricket stadiums to silent chess halls, Indian youngsters ensured the tricolour featured prominently at the highest level of world sport.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s Record-Breaking Cricket Season

The cricketing world took notice when 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi produced a season that rewrote age-related records. He became the youngest player to earn an Indian Premier League contract and smashed the youngest T20 century with a 35-ball hundred against Gujarat Titans, according to IPL data. He also recorded the fastest Under-19 ODI century with a 52-ball 143 and became the youngest centurion in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, as per BCCI records.

Divya Deshmukh Conquers The Chessboard

Indian chess celebrated a landmark moment when 19-year-old Divya Deshmukh clinched the FIDE Women’s World Cup title. She defeated Humpy Koneru in an all-Indian final held in Georgia, becoming the fourth Indian woman to earn the Grandmaster title, according to FIDE.

Anahat Singh Leads Squash Breakthrough

Squash saw a major breakthrough as teenager Anahat Singh spearheaded India’s rise. The 17-year-old defeated former world number 10 Joshna Chinappa multiple times on the domestic circuit. Her standout performance came in Chennai, where India lifted its first-ever Squash World Cup title, as confirmed by the World Squash Federation.

Sheetal Devi’s Golden Moment In Para Archery

At the World Para Archery Championships in Gwangju, Sheetal Devi scripted history. The 18-year-old won gold in the women’s individual compound category, defeating world number one Oznur Cure Girdi 146-143, according to World Archery. She also added silver in the team event and bronze in the mixed team category.

Sachin Yadav Emerges In Javelin

Indian athletics found a new contender in javelin thrower Sachin Yadav. Competing at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, the 25-year-old recorded a personal best of 86.27 metres to finish fourth, narrowly missing the podium, as per World Athletics data.

Samrat Rana Shines In Shooting Arena

Shooting delivered a historic moment when Samrat Rana won gold in the men’s 10m air pistol at the ISSF World Championships in Cairo. He became the first Indian to secure a senior individual world title in an Olympic pistol event, according to ISSF records.

Shafali Verma’s World Cup Final Masterclass

Women’s cricket reached a new high when Shafali Verma starred in the Women’s ODI World Cup final. Her attacking 87 off 78 balls against South Africa made her the youngest player to score a half-century in an ODI World Cup final, as per ICC statistics, and played a decisive role in India lifting its maiden senior World Cup title.

Animesh Kujur Redefines Indian Sprinting

Indian sprinting witnessed a revival as Animesh Kujur shattered long-standing national records. He clocked 10.18 seconds in the 100m at the Dromia International Sprint Meet in Greece and later set a new 200m record of 20.32 seconds, according to Athletics Federation of India data. He also became the first Indian sprinter to qualify for the World Championships in the 200m event.
